As we head into Euro 2020, we take a look at some of the best goals ever scored in the tournament.

Euro 2020 gets underway on Friday 11th June and with so much attacking talent spread across participating teams, we’re expecting some cracking goals that will hopefully go down in history and make their way into top goals lists such as this below.

If you are considering having a bet on Euro 2020, Which Bookie have listed the best bookmakers, betting offers and odds, along with some host tips for the tournament.

Below, we have listed 5 of the best goals ever to be scored at the Euros.

Paul Gascoigne v Scotland – Euro ‘96

England fans will remember this one as if it were yesterday and it will go down as one of the most iconic England goals ever to be scored.

In the Euro ‘96 match between England and Scotland at Wembley, Alan Shearer’s second half goal was about to be cancelled out by Gary McAllister from the penalty spot after Tony Adams took down Scotland’s Gordon Durie in the box. However, an excellent save from David Seamon was followed up 30 seconds later by a special moment from one of England’s greatest players.

It took just 3 touches of the ball from Season’s goal kick following the penalty to play the ball to Gascoigne who, with his first touch, flicked it over Colin Hendry’s head and volleyed it past goalkeeper Andy Goram.

Maniche – Portugal vs Netherlands – Euro 2004

One of the most memorable goals from Euro 2004 was from Portugal’s central midfielder, Maniche.

They were playing the Netherlands and his superb strike sent them through to their first ever European Championships final to play Greece where they ended up losing 1-0 in one of the biggest shocks in the history of the tournament.

Zinedine Zidane – France vs England – Euro 2004

It was a game England fans will want to forget but unfortunately, Zidane’s goal in that match does make it to our list.

England lead the match 1-0 after a first half goal from Frank Lampard. The Three Lions has the chance to put the game to bed midway through the second half as Wayne Rooney was brought down in the box and awarded a penalty. However, Fabien Barthez was able to deny David Beckham which led to 20 minutes of misery for England.

In the 91st minute, Zinedine Zidane scored one of the best free kicks scored at the European Championships which was followed up by an injury time winner from the French from the penalty spot.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Sweden vs France – Euro 2012

A top goal from one of the more recent European Championships comes from Sweden’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic who has talent almost as big as his ego. Sweden were playing France in the group stage of the tournament and although they had already been eliminated from the competition at this point, it didn’t stop Ibrahimovic providing a moment of magic with one of the best volleys ever to hit the back of the net in the Euros.

Ronnie Whelan – Republic of Ireland vs Soviet Union – Euro 1988

Heading all the way back to Euro 1988 brings us one of the best goals ever to be scored at the tournament from a slightly unexpected Ronnie Whelan.

The Republic of Ireland were playing the Soviet Union when a long throw-in from Mick McCarthy made its way onto the box for Ronnie Whelan to scissor-kick the ball into the top corner.

Ireland didn’t win the match that day but Whelan’s goal will be remembered as one of the best.
